Massage Therapy Schools Help Returning Vets

Massage therapy schools have partnered up with the U.S. armed forces to offer up some healing touch therapy to veterans returning home with injuries from their tours of service oversees.

The Hands for Heroes™ organization coordinates the effort between the military and massage therapists and massage therapy schools to offer veterans who are wounded, both physically and psychologically, free massage therapy sessions upon their return to the states.

The Georgia Massage School of the metropolitan Atlanta massage school is taking part in Hands for Heroes™ by offering a fixed number of free massages each months to returning veterans who qualify for the service. Some of the injuries incurred on United States soldiers are unique to the military or are more common among service members than they are to the general public. This offers a unique opportunity to the massage therapy schools, as well.

Student participating in the free massage therapy clinics at their schools can gain significant insight into types of injuries and ailments they may not otherwise encounter before graduating from their studies. Soldiers are subjected to large amounts of psychological stress as well as physical stress. In some cases they are directly injured in the line of duty and require physical and massage therapy to recover completely.

The Hands for Heroes™ program reaches across the country with connections and relationships with massage therapists, clinics, and massage therapy schools across the U.S. For participating in the program, massage therapy schools and other health organizations are provided with marketing materials to notify the public of their participation, as well as certificates of participation and a press release from the organization announcing the new partnership between the school and the program.

Massage therapy schools and other organizations that wish to participate in the program can contact the organizers at their website, handsforheroes.net.
